In 2014 a butterfly garden was established near the boathouse in the Biltmore Lake community beside Enka Lake. The garden was later certified as a Monarch Waystation by the Monarch Watch organization. The Biltmore Lake Landscape Committee has enlarged the demonstration garden over the years to include plants that are attractive to a variety of pollinator species. Plant markers with common and scientific names have been placed next to many of the plants and a detailed description of the plants is available to residents on the Biltmore Lake intranet. Gardening projects such as these provide an opportunity to connect to nature and help us better understand how nature works.
